Liz here. First I’d like to say a big thanks to all who 70 of you who viewed our first ever post! I can’t tell you how excited we were to open our blog tonight and see that number!

I’m sure you’re wondering, “what could she possible talk about today?” Well, let me leave you to wonder no longer!

We decided today who’s going to watch our house. Well, at least the offer was made to a wonderful family. We are just waiting to hear back from them whether they’d like to stay in our house or not. (Of course, we didn’t warn them about the skunks, the funky plumbing, or the vertical climb to the bedrooms.) We just asked if they’d like a little extra space for 6 weeks. šŸ˜‰

We’re going back and forth on the dog. See, Ism is convinced Bologna will LOVE the trip. I am concerned we’re going to end up leaving him in a shelter somewhere in the continental US. in case you’re ever in a similar situation I’d like to refer you to a very interesting site: DogFriendly.com. This site lists everything from beaches for dogs to dog-friendly outdoor dining. I also found this “How to Travel with Your Dog” article on About.com.

We’re still up in the air on this matter. We’re definitely bringing the kids, but the dog?!? What do you think? Would Bologna rather stay in our home with friends or ride with us across America?

T minus 13 days and counting…

Liz here. So, we’re down to 13 days before the big trip. If all goes as planned, we’ll be leaving Derry on August 29 right after service atĀ LifeWay Church gets out. That morning we’ll be sharing our presentation to our home church as the ultimate road trip kicks off. I’ve been doing lots of preparation toward this trip. I’ve scoured the Internet searching for reliable sources of information on topics likeĀ Family Road Trip Packing List,Ā distances between cities via highways, andĀ fun stuff to do in the car with kids. There’s just so much information out there. My favorite site thus far has been SimpleMom.net for pertinent, useful information from a mom who’s been there. The family packing list above is located on Tsh’s site.

There’s just so much to think about…

  • who will watch the house while we’re gone?
  • will Bologna Salami Pastrami (our family dog) enjoy the ride?
  • will the youth ministry fall apart while we’re gone?
  • will our teens grow so much that we’re not welcome back in October?
  • how am I going to keep the little ones entertained in the car for 5-7 hours a day for 6 weeks straight?
  • what are we going to eat while we’re out there?
  • will the Grand Canyon be everything I’ve dreamed?
  • what if we break down?
  • what if we fall behind schedule?
  • is this going to be fun?
  • CAN WE ACTUALLY DO THIS?

With so much to think about, it’s been getting harder and harder to sleep each night. I’ve been drawn back to God’s word over and over like a hungry dog outside a fancy restaurant. Finding comfort there is inevitable…and oh, so welcome.

Philippians 4:13 rings in my head throughout the day. “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

So, what are your thoughts? What things should I be considering in preparation for our trip? What have I forgotten?
